A person who spiked candy with tranquilliser and gave them to minors at a summer program in the area has confessed to sexual offenses against two boys both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight minors and a grown-up became sick at the location in July.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a series of 17 offences when he stood at Leicester Crown Court on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was facing, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was remanded in custody before a additional proceeding on late November.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the judicial body.
She explained his those affected were under-privileged children who were staying at a youth camp which he ran.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would go into the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had conducted this practice with the young males "for many years", and children had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the minors being "overexcited from fun", until his stepchild had concerns in summer 2025.
The legal representative stated further: "This year his stepchild had worries about what was going on, with valid cause.
"They resolved" to investigate in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel said items including infant oil, Vaseline and medical needles were found, and his stepson alerted the police about his suspicions.
She said the man proceeded to play the "treat game" with six boys that evening - Saturday 26 July - and they were all ill the subsequent day.
"The police had not responded by that time," she continued.
The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the events.
The prosecutor explained the minors were struggling to walk due to their sickness, so the stepson called the authorities once more.
She said the defendant then engaged in the "treat game" in a space of five minors.
